ESOS – the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme – is an energy assessment and energy saving scheme, a directive of the UK government to encourage energy saving measures. Companies that are required to take part will have to demonstrate compliance by the 5th of December 2015.
Your organisation qualifies if, on 31 December 2014, it meets the ESOS definition of a large undertaking, which is any UK company that either employs 250 or more people, or has an annual turnover in excess of 50 million euros.
Some companies might already have a compliant certificate that count as an ESOS assessment, such as ISO 50001, Display Energy Certificates (DECs), Green Deal Assessments (GDA) and energy audits.
Complying with ESOS is hugely beneficial financially, and those companies that are required to comply need to undertake their audits shortly, as there is less than 8 months left to avoid the fines of non-compliance.
