Working alongside client Federated Hermes, development manager MEPC, and contractor Bowmer & Kirkland, Mainer is helping to deliver a Whole Lifecycle Assessment, as well as undertaking BREEAM and Fitwel building certifications, enhancing the credentials of the NOMA estate by achieving BREEAM Outstanding, Fitwel 2 Star and Net Zero Carbon in Operation.
The area NOMA in Manchester City Centre has been a key feature in the industrial revolution since 1780 when Sir Richard Arkwright tested the viability of applying steam power to driving a cotton mill.
Visited by Friedrich Engles in 1844, by the early 1900’s The Co-operative move to the newly completed Hanover building and by the Second World War The Co-operative further invested in the area with The Old Bank, Dantzic, Redfern and Federation completed as examples of period architecture.
Following bombing in the Second World War, the Co-op completed the tallest building in the UK, and Manchester’s first skyscraper, the CIS Tower.
The drive for Sustainability following the naming of the 20 acre site NOMA, was demonstrated in 2013 with the completion of 1 Angel Square as one of the most sustainable buildings in the UK.
Following Amazon’s relocation to Hanover in 2018, plans for the area around 1 Angel Square was planned, with 4 Angel Square completed in in Q4 2023, and 2&3 Angel Square due to be on site later in 2023.
As NABERS 5 Star, BREEAM Outstanding, and Fitwel 2 star, 4 Angel Square promises to be the first of a new breed of commercial office with Sustainability at its core, with Wellness suites enhancing the occupier experience.
