Fitwel
What is Fitwel?
Fitwel (facility innovations toward wellness environment leadership) is a building ratings system designed to be used for both commercial interiors and housing. Its guidelines provide an operating model for healthier buildings.
Fitwel is the premier certification system for optimising buildings to improve health and productivity outcomes through targeted improvements to design and operational strategies.
It is organised around specific, incremental changes that will foster a healthier workplace, regardless of size, construction year, or location, in so doing promoting thinking about what role buildings can play in encouraging healthy behaviour, and consequently healthy lifestyles.
Certification is facilitated by Fitwel’s interactive, digital interface that gives direct access to details about project performance and the impact upon health. Either a single project or a portfolio can be registered, benchmarked and submitted for Fitwel certification.
Fitwel Ambassadors
Our team currently includes two Fitwel Ambassadors. Ambassadors are professionally recognised individuals who are leading the healthy building movement through the application of Fitwel. The Ambassador programme arms its participants with the tools necessary to certify buildings using Fitwel.
Fitwel Champions
Portfolio owners can easily qualify to become Fitwel Champions though Fitwel’s streamlined process. The title is awarded to pioneering companies that have committed to lead the industry by using Fitwel to certify their assets at scale. More information here.
Viral Response to COVID-19
Due to the current pandemic, the increasing need for safe and healthy offices has seen an unprecedented demand across the industry.
Fitwel’s timely response to the COVID-19 crisis has been the release of their Viral Response Module, which aims to prevent the spread of contagious diseases in offices.
Under this scheme an entity that manages/develops a number of assets achieves certification, following which this is then applied to assets in their portfolio.
Further information on the Viral Response Module can be found here.
How can we help?
At Mainer Associates we look to ensure that project teams achieve optimal levels of environmental performance within the built environment. Our emphasis is on long-term sustainability and in minimising the environmental impact of the built environment through a whole lifecycle approach.
We register the project by navigating to the Fitwel Portal and entering basic project information. Once the project is registered, we would advance through the Fitwel process, by choosing the appropriate scorecard and assessing how the project measures up against each of the Fitwel Strategies.
Once the initial assessment is complete, similar to a BREEAM Pre-Assessment, we would then create and archive historical snapshots of your responses to the Fitwel Strategies by selecting the benchmark option. With the benchmark score, the system populates the project’s areas of opportunity, or a list of strategies not yet implemented in order of greatest impact and points.
